We've had a few sleepless nights over the past week and boy are my arms tired. Sometimes all you can do to soothe our little man is strap him in the car seat and swing him around. It works just about every time and only has one draw back: YOU CAN NOT STOP SWINGING THE CAR SEAT.

Happy Birthday Zack!!

Today is my little brother's birthday. Zack's a pretty damn good brother. I love him and I am proud of his accomplishments. There will be a modest celebration. We will eat home made pizza, have some cake, and drink some beer. Since Elijah is finally getting bigger, Katie will be dressing him up for this event.

It's amazing how much a baby changes in 2 weeks. Bring on the double chin and leg rolls!

Recently I've been feeling the urge to free up some room around the house and lighten the load. My road bike frame has not been built up for over a year. Last winter I decided I should be putting in training time on my cross bike, so I stripped the parts off my road bike and threw them on the cross bike. It's kind of odd how hard it is to get rid of things that you have not used in quite some time.
What do I stand to gain by hanging onto my old road frame? Nothing. It will continue to hang the basement, collect dust and take up room. What do I gain by selling it? Less clutter and cash for a powertap wheel. It seems pretty simple, yet I still struggle with letting it go. It's not just the road frame. Our basement seems to be where I put things that I don't use but need to keep.
There's also this box of parts in the basement that I can't seem to get rid of. It contains old XTR cantis, saddles, seatposts, new cross cantis, and a bunch of other stuff I'll never use. Maybe I can ebay them and get a little cash, or maybe I can hang onto them for another season. It seems like this should be the year of change. My new basement mantra will be: clean it up and get rid of it!!!!!
I'm also getting the Rig ready to sell. This is one of my favorite bikes of all time. So why am I selling it? Because I'd like a frame with a more forgiving ride that, if needed, can run gears. I've lined up a buyer and even have my new frame picked out, but as I clean up the Rig it becomes hard to think about letting it go. I just need to clean it up and move on.

1 Week Old

Elijah is now 1 week old and he's settled into quite a routine. Eat, sleep on mom, drop a deuce, eat, sleep on dad, drop another deuce. Also, baths are still not popular. The dogs are like his body guards. When he starts crying they converge on the room and try to sniff out culprits or at least lick his feet.

Katie's finally had two solid days of rest and looks/feels quite a bit better. Although, it is odd to see her without a gigantic belly. Elijah and I hung out and watched the TOC updates while mapping out my training for the coming season and researched power meters.

Family Time!!!

We made it home from the hospital on Thursday. Things are going really well and we are all settling into our new roles. Katie is recovering nicely and feels stronger everyday. Elijah hates the car seat, baths, diaper changes, and sleeping between the hours of 2AM and 7AM. Elijah loves eating, bouncing, burping, the burrito wrap, and sleeping with me or Katie between the hours of 8AM and 1 AM. The dogs are being really good. They struggled with the crying the first night. It was like they wanted to help us by sneaking little licks in whenever Elijah was within reach. Buckley and Mona are also protecting the house with a new vengence. Don't even think about slowing your car down in front of house.
Now that I'm getting some energy back I'll be slowly getting back into the swing of training and dealing with some unfinished buisness. I hope to get the basement cleaned out/organized, weed through boxes of bike stuff, and get my back into a better place. I'll try to keep photos and entries rolling as time allows.

Our baby arrived after 22 hours of labor and an emergency c-section. His name is Elijah. Katie and baby are doing well. We are all recovering from a very scary but amazing experience.

We know it's getting tight in there! Today was hopefully our last appointment before delivery day and things went quite well. Here's a random thought from my errands today: Why am one of the few people out there that washes my hands and drives the speed limit?

IS IT BABY TIME YET?

We are told it will be sometime soon.

12 DAYS TO EDC!!!!!

Well hypnobirthing class is done and now begins the waiting game. Our goals are to keep Mona from going crazy, get the hospital bag packed, and enjoy some trips to restaurants and movie theaters. Mona is our oldest dog. Right before we found out that Katie was pregnant Mona started getting weird. Mona suddenly became my best friend and totally ignored Katie. It was crazy because while Mona and I get along, she's not the biggest fan of men. I enjoyed a couple weeks of Mona just following me around, resting her head in my lap, and actually listening to me. Just when I got used to the new obedient Mona she reverted back to her old self, independent and fiercely protective of Katie.
Fast forward about 9 months and a new Mona has emerged. Mona is now a super freak! She can't stand us leaving the house, she's incredibly insubordinate, and she's really curious whenever we get home. I should also mention that she is trying to chew her way through her crate, it reminds me of Prison Break. It wouldn't alarm if we came home from work to find a tunnel though the basement wall and under the driveway with an opening under the jeep. Two questions remain about Mona's recent madness: Would she take Buckley? Does this mean that Katie's going to produce a child soon?

Nesting?????

Does cleaning the baseboards with Q-tips count as nesting? If so, then she's been doing quite a bit of nesting. This last three days have been filled with cleaning, some baby shower action, frozen pipes, furnace failure, a gas leak, one sleepless night, and more cleaning. All I can say is when you're on, you are really on.
Disaster has been avoided and we can continue on with our lives. No more crawling around the basement on my back installing pipe warmers and insulation, or sleeping in hotels (due to no furnace and gas leak) with two freaked out dogs. Something tells me that we'll be going through plenty of Q-tips over the next month.

The New Year

Looking back at the past year has been interesting. Last year was great but this year is going to top it!!!!! We finally get to see what's been growing in Katie's belly. We've spent the last week deep cleaning, lightening our load, and getting things in order around the house. We've finally finished our Must Be Done By February List and can focus on resting, birthing class, and enjoying sleeping through the night.
